Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card with Myths & Magic

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card

Happy April! With Sale-A-Bration (SAB) behind us, it’s out with the old and in with the new… from the spring Occasions catalog! This week I’m sharing projects made with Stampin’ Up!’s Myths & Magic Suite of products.

Today’s card is for all the little girls out there who adore mermaids… even if just in their imagination! Picture frolicking the day away playing hide-n-seek among the seaweed, the ocean as your playground. Can you hear the roar of the waves? Feel the sun on your cheeks? The tickle from the bubbles? Sigh……

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card

I was excited to finally play with the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper (S-DSP). Oh, my -sooo FUN and GORGEOUS! If you have kiddos in your life, this paper is a MUST! Full of enchanting characters, mythical creatures, and colorful backgrounds, it’s sure to be a big hit with both boys and girls! The coordinating Magical Day stamps are equally as fun; see another kid’s project using them HERE.

COLOR INSPIRATION

One reason I love using DSP is Stampin’ Up!’s done the color coordination for us: just take your cue from the paper. I focused on Bermuda Bay to allude to the ocean, with Fresh Fig and Old Olive as the accents in their mer-suits. Or is it mer-dresses?

TEXTURE & BLING

The Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (TIEF) is the perfect choice to add instant texture and dimension that mimics waves. A quick pass through the Big Shot and you’re done!

Talk about glimmer and shimmer… between the glossy glitter on the S-DSP (that’s the “Specialty” part), the sparkle from the Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper, and the shimmer ribbon (from SAB)- this card sets the record for bling! Oh, so girly 🙂

FUSSY CUT

To fussy cut or not? If you’re not familiar with the term, it simply refers to intricate cutting. It’s one of those things you either love or… don’t. I find it relaxing and easy with our Paper Snips (small, sharp scissors needed!), so I opted to cut these characters directly from the DSP. The only stamping on the front is that little sentiment (from SAB Party Pandas)! But if it’s not your thing, no worries- just stamp, color and die cut them yourself with the Magical Day stamps & coordinating Framelits dies.
