Picture Perfect Birthday Card #2

Happy Wednesday… so glad you’re here! Today I’m sharing card #2 in the Picture Perfect Birthday card showcase. It’s such a simple, easy-to-make card, it’s my go-to design when giving money or a gift card. I hope you’ll adopt it for yourself! Change up the paper and stamps and it’s perfect for any occasion.

If you missed card #1 from Monday, you can see it HERE.

Going, going…

As I shared Monday, while the ‘Picture Perfect Birthday’ stamp set will continue to be available for another year, the ‘Picture Perfect Party’ Designer Series Paper featured this week is retiring. Coupled with the coordinating cardstock pack (Bermuda Bay, Lemon Lime Twist & retiring color Peekaboo Peach) and Classic Ink Spots (Berry Burst, Bermuda Bay, Peekaboo Peach & Pool Party) they make creating birthday cards quick and easy! I highly recommend getting these retiring goodies before they disappear! If you’re looking for value, this is the way to go!

Plus, by the end of the week, you’ll have three different card recipes to get you started creating and building your birthday card stash. (It’s as good as a FREE class!) And this suite of products is perfect for cards that work for everyone- adults and kids, male and female! A universal-use card is up there with cake, ice cream… and whipped cream with a cherry on top! And maybe a chocolate drizzle, too!

Card Recipe

STAMPS: Picture Perfect Birthday

INK: Classic Ink Spots- Bermuda Bay (or ink to match cardstock of choice)

  • Picture Perfect Party Cardstock Pack– Bermuda Bay Card Base 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5-1/2″ and 9″; front circle Lemon Lime Twist 2-1/2″
  • Picture Perfect Party Designer Series Paper: Candles 2″ wide x 4-1/4″ high; front layer 3″ x 3-3/4″, ‘TO YOU” layer & stripe on gift card holder- see Savvy Tips below
  • Whisper White Cardstock: Inside sentiment panel 3″ x 3-3/4″; front circle 2-1/4″

EMBELLISHMENTS: Bermuda Bay Shimmer Ribbon (retired Sale-A-Bration; any coordinating ribbon or Baker’s Twine works), Tutti-Frutti Self Adhesive Sequins

ADHESIVES: SNAIL or MP Glue, Stampin’ Dimensionals (circles on card front), Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (‘TO YOU’ double layer on front), Tear & Tape [or Fast Fuse] for gift card flap

TOOLS: Stampin’ Trimmer, Bone Folder, 2-1/4 Circle Punch, 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, 1″ Circle Punch (optional) [Layering Circle Framelits Dies would also work]

Savvy Tips

Savvy Tip #1: The DSP is 6″ high, so you’ll need to trim down the “candles” to fit the card height of 4-1/4″. To center them, cut 3/4″ from the top and 1″ from the bottom, cut again into three strips just shy of 3/8″ each.  This is the “stripe” used on the inside gift card holder.  Take the candles and cut vertically every 2″. Now you have enough for three cards. No waste!!! Here’s a picture for a visual…

picture perfect birthday card

Cut guide with zero waste… enough for 3 cards!

Savvy Tip #2: The 3/4″ cut from the top is used for the layer on the front that says “TO YOU”. I used a Stampin’ Write Marker in Bermuda Bay, but, the Classic Ink Spot would also work with a simple Post-It Note mask over ‘Birthday’. Ink sentiment, remove and stamp. Use what you have… both work!

picture perfect birthday card

Use either the Stampin’ Write Marker or Ink Spot with masking to create the double layer ‘TO YOU’

Savvy Tip #3: Stamp the front sentiment ‘Happiest of Birthdays TO YOU’ first, then punch. Layer on colored cardstock. Before adhering to card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, lay your ribbon or twine in place and tack down with a bit of SNAIL, then attach circle over it. Use Mini Dimensional (or Dimensional cut in half) to adhere the double layer ‘TO YOU’. Add sequins last.

Savvy Tip #4: Punch optional finger notch from gift card flap before adhering sides with Tear & Tape.

Retiring Stampin’ Up! Products and Picture Perfect Party Cards

Retiring Products & Picture Perfect Party Cards

Happy Monday! Today’s a two-for-one special: a video walk-through of retiring items from the spring Occasions 2018 catalog and the first in this weeks showcase of Picture Perfect Party cards.

Let’s start with retiring Stampin’ Up! products from the Occasions 2018 Catalog. Those items that will NOT be available after May 31st… or when sold out… whichever happen first.

If you’re visual like me, grab your catalog and a pen and let’s mark what to say goodbye to. I’ve also included a few insider tips and personal recommendations. If you missed last week’s short video about the retiring colors, watch it HERE

CORRECTION: At the end of the video I say you can get the Host Sets for cost… that’s only partly true. Orders $150+ earn Rewards that allow you to get them FREE! So. Much. Better 🙂

  • Cardstock, Designer Series Paper, Embellishments, Markers, Stampin’ Ink Spots, and Framelits/Thinlets Dies are available while supplies last or until May 31, 2018- whichever comes first.

Picture Perfect Party Cards

I want to share a card we made in my local Paper Hugs Club class this weekend. So colorful and bright… it’s like a party in a card! Perfect for men or women, kiddos or adults- it’s universal! And might I add… EASY! Inspired by another demonstrator, Mercedes Weber; I just love the creative Stampin’ Up! community.

picture perfect party cards

I’m happy to say the ‘Picture Perfect Birthday’ stamp set will continue to be available in the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalog (yay), however, the ‘Picture Perfect Party’ Designer Series Paper, coordinating cardstock pack and Ink Spots are soon to be history! They work so well together to create quick & easy cards, I highly recommend you get ’em before they’re gone. And like I mention in the video, the Ink Spots are exclusive to this catalog only!!! Such a great way to get several colors for very little $$$! (Reminder, there’s a second set of colors available HERE).

  • Card Base: 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded @ 5.5″; stamped in corners with Versamark ink (your choice from Picture Perfect Party [PPP] cardstock pack)
  • “Polaroid”- Whisper White Cardstock 4″ x 3-1/4″

Note you can get 4 cards from ONE 6″ x 6″ piece of DSP! 😯 By week’s end, you’ll have three designs with card recipes to start creating… it’s like a FREE card class!

Card Sketches Design #4 – Consider Yourself Hugged

Card Sketches Design #4

As promised, here’s the fourth (and last- at least for awhile:) card made with the same sketch design (or blueprint) I’ve been showcasing the last 2 weeks. It really does deserve to be in your Design Notebook. Feel free to Pin It or download & copy it. I find it’s a great go-to sketch when I’m in a creative fog. Anyone???

Don’t have a Design Notebook? I encourage you to start one- whether it’s an actual notebook or virtual version. Having a handful of card sketches to reference can be an easy way to jumpstart your creative juices.

card sketches #4

Here’s a refresher of the design. If you missed any of the other three cards, you can see the mermaid card HERE, the dragon card HERE and the birdhouse card HERE. I encourage you to check them out so you can see how versatile a design can be. Change up the color, paper and stamps and create an endless number of cards that look similar in form, but very different in style.

card sketches

  • Card Base- Thick Whisper White 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored & folded @ 5-1/2″
  • Bottom Layer- Whole Lot Of Lovely DSP 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Banner- Berry Burst cardstock cut 3″ wide x 5″ long, notched at the bottom.
  • Circle Layers-  Layering Circles Framelits dies in Whisper White and Basic Black.
  • Stamping- The flower was stamped with Berry Burst and leaves with Lemon Lime Twist ink.
  • Embellishments- I used a black Rhinestone Jewel in the center (from the 2017 Holiday catalog, now retired). If you don’t have that, the mini sequins below would also work. A quick bow from Black Baker’s Twine completes it.
  • Easy-peasy, lemon squeasy.

In this card, black is the dominant color, with Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist as accents. It’s a bright, bold mix that works because of the use of lots of white!

The black and white background on the card is from the Whole Lot of Lovely Designer Series Paper, part of the Whole Lot of Lovely suite of products. Thought I’d share them since they’re some of my favorite goodies in the Annual Catalog, even if they’re not on this card. It’s a beautiful, versatile suite!

Hi There! Hedgehog Card Featuring Stampin’ Up! Hedgehugs Stamps

Hi There! Hedgehog Card

Happy Wednesday! Aren’t these little hedgehogs just so stinkin’ cute? They are THE stars of Stampin’ Up!’s Hedgehugs stamp set! In my imaginary world, I picture them the best of friends. Perfect for an adorable HI-HELLO-THINKING OF YOU card. Who wouldn’t want to open their mailbox and find this cute hedgehog card?!

In my mind, they just need to be playing on a log. Not sure why- but, we’re going with it! So Early Espresso was my first color choice. Soft Sky was my second- mostly because I had a scrap from the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper sitting on my desk that I thought I could use. In the design, I thought it could allude to sky, as well. After that, red seemed the obvious choice to brighten up the other two. Together, they work really well, with a bit of vintage vibe.

The coloring on the hedgehogs was done with Stampin’ Blends markers and a brush of Wink of Stella glitter. Of course, hedgehogs should shimmer, too! Color in a little grass to “ground” them, and you’re done.

I do LOVE Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (TIEF) to add that special oomph to a card and the Pinewood Planks 3-D TIEF was just what I wanted for that wood effect. Another option could be the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. Either would work, depending on what you have on hand. I highly recommend both.

Don’t forget to decorate the inside of your card, too- as well, as the envelope. It’s like accessorizing an outfit. It dresses thing up and ties everything together.

Ever made a mistake just when you were about to finish? I messed up the sentiment below AFTER I had everything else colored. Argh! Not wanting to throw it away, I just stamped it on a scrap piece and covered over it. Problem solved and my girlfriend will never know. So take heart if it happens to you and do a little creative up 🙂

Have fun playing with these cute little forest creatures! So many options with this cute stamp set. If you’d like to see another card made with this Hedgehugs set, check it out HERE (it’s toward the bottom of the post).

Hope you brighten someone’s day with this adorable hedgehog card. It’s the real reason why handmade is heartfelt!

Happy Stampin’!

Good News? Bad News?

If you’d rather read it or print the list, I’ve got you covered. I know colors are like friends, so I’ll share the bad news first, then the good news!

Embossed Thank You Card With Important News Coming at Noon

Embossed Thank You Card

Happy Monday! Today’s a special day with 2 posts! This is my normal project post I already had planned for you, but you’re going to want to come back at noon for the HUGE News Flash on Retiring Stampin’ Up! colors! No need to remember for my subscribers… you’ll get it emailed! Until then…

Spring is in the air… at least here in southern California. The birds are singing. The flowers are blooming. And regardless of the weather where you’re at, this colorful thank you card will bring a little sunshine to your craft area.

Featuring the Flying Home stamp set, if you love coloring like I do, the adorable feathered friends in these stamps should be on your wish list. Three adorable scenes with little butterfly and bee accents… they’re so cute!stampin' up! flying home stamp set

Does this design look familiar? Yep, same blueprint as last week’s cards. When I said it was a fave, I really meant it. After making last week’s children’s cards, I decided to keep playing… I was on a roll!  You can do the same! Mix up the colors, paper and stamps and build up your stash of cards with this one design.

If you missed the other cards from last week, find the girls mermaid card HERE and the boys dragon card HERE (with blueprint) for comparison. I’ve still got one more I’ll share later in the week.

Like orange sherbet? Then you’ll love Peekaboo Peach. For art. Not to eat. LOL Paired with Night of Navy, it’s a modern twist on the classic navy and yellow. And with lots of white, the flowers and bird can be any other colors you want.

Want a quick way to add an accent of texture to a card? The Petal Pair (there’s 2) Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (TIEF) are ideal to direct the eye to a focal point, like the circle of flowers on this card. It’s also just the right size to emboss your envelope flap. Small, quick and easy!

Little Boys Dragon Birthday Card with 3-Step Design

Knight & Dragon Birthday Card

Today’s card is for all the little boys who dream of being the brave knight that slays the dragon. Or with the adorable Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper (S-DSP), maybe it’s play with the dragon! Either way, this playful dragon birthday card is sure to bring smiles!

dragon birthday card

Today’s post also includes several tips on designing a card, including my 3-prong approach guaranteed to work every time!

  1. Use a Sketch Design or “Blueprint”
  2.  Get Color Inspiration and…
  3. Pattern Coordination from Designer Paper

You may notice this is the same design as Monday’s card. I want you to see that by switching up any aspect, you can create cards that look similar in form, but are different in style, just like today’s card versus the girls mermaid card featured on Monday’s post HERE.  In today’s card, the design is the same, but we’re switching up the colors and patterns.

Blueprint for dragon birthday card

The easiest way to get color inspiration is by looking at what colors are in the Designer Paper you’re using. From the Myths & Magic S-DSP, I chose what I call the “Sherwood Forest” pattern as my primary paper. Next I chose a second coordinating pattern in Dapper Denim. These form the basic foundation of the card. Since Lemon Lime Twist is the dominant color on the “Sherwood Forest” pattern, I chose Old Olive to coordinate with the Dapper Denim, making them both the accents. So when selecting the knight and dragon to cut out, I chose characters with these colors (with the gray acting as a neutral).Color inspiration for dragon birthday card

I know I’m a broken record on this, but using Designer Paper makes creating sooo EASY! Stampin’ Up!’s already done all the coordinating work for us- in both colors and patterns. The hardest part is picking which to use! So here’s a little tip on mixing and matching patterns… If one pattern has large features (Sherwood Forest), select a coordinating pattern with (proportionally) small features (Dapper Denim xxx). Think “opposites attract”.

And speaking of possibilities… what if you don’t have the coordinating Magical Day stamps? Although, I do highly recommend them! 🙂 Can you just use the paper? YES! The only stamping on this card is the sentiments, which could easily be chosen from any favorites you already own.

Stamps: Party Pandas (Happy Birthday), Magical Day (inside greeting)

Ink: Dapper Denim Ink Pad

Myths & Magic S-DSP-

  • Sherwood Forest- 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Dapper Denim xxx- 3″ x 5″, notched at bottom
  • Dragons & Knights- fussy cut

Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper- die cut circle 2-1/2″

Lemon Lime Twist Cardstock- 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded @ 5-1/2″ to form card base

Whisper White Cardstock

  • Inside Greeting Panel- 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • Front sentiment- 3/8″ x 2″, notched at both ends

Embellishments: Silver Baker’s Twine

Adhesives: SNAIL or MP Glue, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Mini Dimensionals

Tools: Stampin’ Trimmer, Bone Folder, Paper Snips, Big Shot, Layering Circles Thinlits Dies

Big news coming next week- including Stampin’ Up! color changes and peeks at new products coming in the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalog, which I get to see tomorrow (with a few thousand Stampin’ Up! friends!). I am soooo excited and can’t wait to share with you!

Meanwhile, I hope these tips are helpful and you enjoy making this dragon birthday card for a special little boy in your life. I know just who’s getting this one for his third birthday. Have a wonderful weekend! See ya Monday…

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card with Myths & Magic

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card

Happy April! With Sale-A-Bration (SAB) behind us, it’s out with the old and in with the new… from the spring Occasions catalog! This week I’m sharing projects made with Stampin’ Up!’s Myths & Magic Suite of products.

Today’s card is for all the little girls out there who adore mermaids… even if just in their imagination! Picture frolicking the day away playing hide-n-seek among the seaweed, the ocean as your playground. Can you hear the roar of the waves? Feel the sun on your cheeks? The tickle from the bubbles? Sigh……

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card

I was excited to finally play with the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper (S-DSP). Oh, my -sooo FUN and GORGEOUS! If you have kiddos in your life, this paper is a MUST! Full of enchanting characters, mythical creatures, and colorful backgrounds, it’s sure to be a big hit with both boys and girls! The coordinating Magical Day stamps are equally as fun; see another kid’s project using them HERE.

Myths & Magic SDSP #145600

One reason I love using DSP is Stampin’ Up!’s done the color coordination for us: just take your cue from the paper. I focused on Bermuda Bay to allude to the ocean, with Fresh Fig and Old Olive as the accents in their mer-suits. Or is it mer-dresses?

Mermaid Birthday Card Design Sketch

The Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (TIEF) is the perfect choice to add instant texture and dimension that mimics waves. A quick pass through the Big Shot and you’re done!

Talk about glimmer and shimmer… between the glossy glitter on the S-DSP (that’s the “Specialty” part), the sparkle from the Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper, and the shimmer ribbon (from SAB)- this card sets the record for bling! Oh, so girly 🙂

Enchanting Mermaid Birthday Card closeup

To fussy cut or not? If you’re not familiar with the term, it simply refers to intricate cutting. It’s one of those things you either love or… don’t. I find it relaxing and easy with our Paper Snips (small, sharp scissors needed!), so I opted to cut these characters directly from the DSP. The only stamping on the front is that little sentiment (from SAB Party Pandas)! But if it’s not your thing, no worries- just stamp, color and die cut them yourself with the Magical Day stamps & coordinating Framelits dies.

I hope you enjoy making this mermaid birthday card for a special little girl in your life. I’m off to make another version of this card for boys. Meanwhile, join me Wednesday (or better yet, subscribe to receive posts delivered to your email) to see a video tutuorial of a fun kids coloring card that is really a card and DIY gift in one- with Crayons! You’ve just got to see it for yourself!

Happy Stampin’!

Sale-A-Bration Favorites – Stampin’ Up! Embossing Folders

1 day left…

Sale-A-Bration ends tomorrow! Last chance to get all the wonderful goodies I’ve been sharing this week. Exclusive products! So much fun… for FREE!

Today rounds out the last of my Sale-A-Bration favorites with Stampin’ Up! embossing folders …aka Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (TIEF for short).

I LOVE embossing folders for quick dimension and texture on a card. A roll through your Big Shot machine and DONE!

(Psst- This is the perfect time to buy the Big Shot and get free dies and embossing folders to play with- ready made fun! See Wednesday’s post HERE for my fave free die sets… up to $34 value!)

Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF

Stampin' Up! embossing folders

3 Sale-A-Bration faves: Basket Weave TIEF + Blossoming Basket Stamps Bundle & Shimmer Ribbon

This Basket Weave TIEF is my top fave and is coupled with the Blossoming Basket stamp set for a Level 2 bundle. LOVE it! It makes for dynamic impressions and bold texture. Use it on your envelopes, as well as on vellum for a lovely sheer layer on your cards. And the stamps… beautiful!

{FYI- This Dynamic TIEF will be available to buy in the new 2018 Annual Catalog just in case you can’t get everything on your Sale-A-Bration wish list.}

Petal Pair TIEF

Stampin' Up! embossing folders Petal Pair

These all-occasion note cards look great simply embossed or colored with inked sponge daubers

Need some super-quick note cards that will work for any occasion? These Narrow Note Cards embossed with the Petal Pair TIEF are great to keep on hand for last minute needs. Thank You. Birthday. Gift Card…Check! Or create a pretty gift set wrapped in the Lots To Love Box (see it HERE

IMPORTANT: You MUST USE Item #150035 to get this FREE! Do NOT use the item number in the Occasions Catalog!)

Other Stampin’ Up! Embossing Folders

Here’s three other fun TIEF’s to choose from. IMPORTANT: You MUST USE the item numbers listed to get these FREE. Do NOT use the item numbers in the Occasion or Annual Catalog!

Today’s SAVVY TIP: When embossing thick whisper white cardstock, a light spritz of water helps relax the paper fibers and prevent the paper from cracking and/or creasing. When done, set it under a large clear block to dry and it’ll come out flat!

It’s Treat Week: Quick & Easy Treat Holders-DIY Easter Basket

It’s Treat Week! Video Tutorial #3

          DIY Easter Basket

I hope you’ve enjoyed the treat holders I’ve shared this week! I’ve had fun making them… and taste-testing the sweets meant to go in them! The sacrifices I’m willing to make…. (lol)

If you missed Monday’s video on treat bags, you’ll want to see it HERE. If you missed Wednesday’s video on treat pouches, see it HERE

Today I share this little DIY Easter Basket made with the Envelope Punch Board (that makes so much more than envelopes). This design is an oldie, but, a goodie that’s worth revisiting as it’s adjustable- allowing you to achieve several different looks (as shown here- with a bonus fourth at the end of this post!).

          DIY Easter Basket

One easy design- many different ways!

          Quick & Easy

Pick your fave Designer Paper, ribbon and adhesive- and you’re set. Make four from one sheet of 12″ x 12″ paper, or use the 6″ x 6″ Designer Papers as-is and they’ll be done in minutes! Quick, easy, inexpensive and versatile… they’re not just for Easter! Think party, wedding or shower favors, too!

Today’s basket features one of my favorite Specialty Designer Series Papers (SDSP) in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog. If you like it as much as I do, it’s worth stocking up on!

FOIL FRENZY Specialty Designer Series Paper

Foil Frenzy Specialty Designer Series Paper #144125

Berry Burst, Tangerine Tango, Lemon Lime Twist & Soft Sky

Sale-A-Bration ends soon! Don’t miss out on all the wonderful rewards you can earn for FREE with every $50 of Stampin’ Up! goodies purchased through my online store by March 31st, 2018.

With 30 things to choose from, the hard part is picking! But there’s no limit- so the more you spend, the more freebies you earn! Problem solved 🙂 See all the SALE-A-BRATION choices HERE.

          BONUS- Basket Into Box

           I kept playing after the video and created this little box using the same design with the Sale-A-Bration Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Paper. GORGEOUS in four patterns of silver, gold and rose-gold foil! {NOTE: All the box needed to close was a little clip off the tips of the top flaps (disregard punching out a handle with the circle punch).}

Stampin’ Write Markers in Pool Party & Soft Sky (flowers) and Pear Pizzazz & Old Olive (leaves) provided the color. The glossy surface allows you to blend the colors and achieve an effect very similar to the Stampin’ Blend markers (which are almost completely sold out right now). A little Pool Party Shimmer Ribbon accent and it’s ready to give. Have I mentioned this design is versatile??? 🙂

          DIY Easter Basket box alternative

From basket to box! SAB Springtime Foil Designer Paper colored with Stampin’ Write Markers

            • 6″ x 6″ square of Designer Series Paper or cardstock
            • Punch and score the first side at 1-3/8″ and then at 4″
            • Rotate the paper and punch and score at each existing score line until all three remaining sides are done
            • Cut, punch & assemble per video tutorial

It’s Treat Week! Easy & Quick Treat Holders

Thanks for joining me for more easy and quick treat holders– just in time for Easter sweets or other little gifts. Today I’m sharing a super easy and oh, so adorable treat pouch with you.

There’s just something about this one that makes me feel like a little kid. I think it’s the mystery of it. You have no idea what’s inside, so you just want to shake it and play the guessing game before you tear it open! That’s half the fun, right?!

Easy & Quick Treat PouchesYou can also be a little more “adult” (lol) and leave one end easy to open, secured with a mini binder clip (like in the friend gift above). It doesn’t get destroyed that way and could even be re-gifted by your recipient (I call that a double-delight when more than one person gets to enjoy your handmade creation).

Easy & Quick treat holders - carrots

            Easter treats for my grand-kiddos!

The Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper is a free Sale-A-Bration reward- perfect for these little “carrots”! The little bunny was made with stamps from the March 2017 Paper Pumpkin kit (LOVE my Paper Pumpkin kits!!!!). If you’re curious what Paper Pumpkin is, read about it HERE

            Easy & Quick Treat Holders

Easy to adapt in size and style for any occasion!

These little cuties also make great party favors for birthdays, showers and weddings- as well as unique packaging for a small gift!

Easy and inexpensive, you can get nine treat pouches per 12″ x 12″ sheet of paper with the small size (4″ x 4″) and four per sheet with the 6″ x 6″ size. Need bigger? You can go up to a full sheet of 12″ x 12″ paper. It’s super easy to adapt the size to fit whatever you need.
