Crafting An ALL ZIPPED UP Birthday Card

Hi crafty friends! Stampin’ Up!’s newest release of products dropped yesterday, including the savvulous new ALL ZIPPED UP Bundle used to make today’s project… SO. MUCH. FUN!

I was inspired to make a card to look like my favorite zip-up hoodie (that I’ll share in this week’s newsletter… see for yourself how it compares!). My mind is reeling with possibilities that I’ll be sharing throughout March. Grab this new bundle and create along with me!

CUT INSTRUCTIONS

CARD BASE: 8-1/2″ x 11″ Summer Splash Cardstock. On the Paper Trimmer, cut on the long side at 5-1/2″; score one piece on the long side at 4-1/4″ to create an A2 card base. (remaining piece is for next step)

HOODIE- Part 1: With the remaining piece, cut on the long side at 4-1/2″ (x 5-1/2). [You lose a little on the width when cutting the zipper, so you need to start with a piece wider than 4-1/4″ to compensate. If you start with a 4-1/4″ piece, your finished piece will be about 4″ wide). Place the open zipper die (photo below) centered left-to-right, with the top of the die aligned with the top of the cardstock. Run this through your die-cutting machine. (photo above)

HOODIE- Part 2: With the straight zipper die, align the top of the die with the cut just made… you want to feel the die drop into place and not move (photo above). Run this through your die-cutting machine. We’ll be using the two large pieces on either side of the zipper, not the zipper piece itself.. it’s going to be replaced with silver foil. (see photo below)

HOODIE POCKETS: Remaining scrap of Summer Splash Cardstock. Die-cut two pockets.

ZIPPER: 2-1/2″ x 6″ Silver Foil Cardstock. Align the open zipper with the tip of the paper and cut on your die-cutting machine. Repeat the same step with the straight zipper die as before. (photo above)

ZIPPER PULL: Leftover scrap Silver Foil Cardstock. Die-cut with zipper pull of choice.

TRIM: 2″ x 6″ Pool Party Cardstock. Die-cut with both angle dies. (photo above)

FLOWER TRINKET ON ZIPPER PULL: 2″ x 2″ Pool Party Cardstock. Stamp flower with White Craft Ink; set aside to dry. Punch center with 1/8″ hole punch [Hole Punch Trio); cut with coordinating die. Attach to zipper pull with White Baker’s Twine.

SHIRT: 3″ x 3″ Basic White Cardstock. Die-cut the bottom half of a circle with the second-to-largest Stylish Shapes Die, positioning it about halfway off edge. We’re taking advantage of the embossed stitching on the outside of the cut line to create the look of faux-stitching on the shirt. (photo above)

SKIN: 3″ x 1-1/2″ Crumb Cake Cardstock

SENTIMENTS: 3″ x 1″ [front] and 4″ x 5-1/4″ [inside] Basic White Cardstock

STAMPING INSTRUCTIONS

HOODIE: Stamp the flower all over the two large hoodie pieces and its two pockets with White Craft Ink; set aside to dry.

SENTIMENTS: Stamp front greeting on small strip of Basic White Cardstock with Summer Splash Classic Ink; trim into two narrow pieces that say ‘Zipping’ and ‘By To Say’. For inside sentiment panel, stamp ‘Happy Birthday’ (and optional flowers) with Summer Splash Classic Ink on large piece of Basic White Cardstock. (photo below)

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

SAVVY TIP: Use a Post-It note or piece of temporary tape on the back of the lower zipper to help keep it ‘zipped together’ until you adhere it to the card base.

Align each trim piece behind the cut edges of the two large (stamped) pieces and adhere in place. Now adhere these pieces to the [silver foil] zipper; trim top as needed so all pieces are even. Adhere pockets… do not apply glue to the ‘opening’ on the right pocket so you can slip the sentiments inside. Adhere the zipper pull with a Mini Glue Dot; the flower trinket dangles freely.

Position the shirt on the back and adhere in place. Place the skin behind the shirt, with the top aligned with the top of the hoodie. Adhere entire piece to card base. Place sentiments inside front pocket and panel inside… done!
