Paper Crafting 101: How To Take Projects from Simple To Stunning
Paper Crafting 101: How To Take Projects from Simple To Stunning
Happy creative day, crafty friends! Today I want to share with you how to take a simple stamping project and Step It Up! It’s easy to remember and apply using these simple 3-step paper crafting formulas.
SIP & EAT
SIP is the acronym for Stamps, Ink and Paper. It’s the basic formula for stamping. Think of it like drinking your favorite beverage…. it quenches you stamping thirst!
- S = Stamps
- I = Ink
- P = Paper
Let’s start with the Simple Stamping version of this card.
Using THE SIP formula, you’ll notice I used three things:
- STAMPS: ALL ADORNED Photopolymer Stamp Set
- INK: Fresh Fig & Lemon Lime Twist Classic Stampin’ Pads (from the 2017-2019 In Color Collection- a great 5-color starter collection designed to play well together for instant color coordinating success)
- PAPER: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (a stamping staple for creating card bases and stamping layers)
There’s also a few basic tools used to make virtually every project. As such, they’re not included in either formula. If you don’t have these yet, put them on your next order (get them before March 31, 2019 and earn an exclusive Sale-A-Bration item FREE when you spend $50)!
- Stampin’ Trimmer (it cuts and scores straight lines quickly & easily)
- Bone Folder (to burnish creases for a crisp fold)
- Clear Block (temporarily hold your stamps for stamping; the ‘D’ Block is the best size to start with
- Either Multipurpose Glue (my personal fave) or refillable double-sided SNAIL Adhesive – these are your all-purpose adhesives
Step It Up!
EAT is the acronym for Embellishments, Adhesive and Tools. While SIP-ping is refreshing, it’s not very filling. You can survive on water alone for quite awhile, but eventually you need something more. Think of EATing as the more part of paper crafting. It adds to the fun and takes your projects from simple to stunning. It’s the formula to use when you want to Step It Up!
- E = Embellishments
- A = Adhesives
- T = Tools
Now let’s look at the Step It Up! version. Notice what’s been added with the EAT formula:
- EMBELLISHMENTS: Color-matched Fresh Fig 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon and Epoxy Heart Droplet (placed over the stamped heart). Color matched items give the most bang for your buck… a great place to start if you’re not sure what to get.
- ADHESIVE: The Whisper White panel is elevated with Stampin’ Dimensionals; Ribbon and Bows are adhered with Mini Glue Dots. These are considered specialty adhesives, great for when you want to create a focal point, add depth & dimension and attach small items easily.
- TOOLS: none were used on this card, but if you use punches, embossing folders and dies with the Big Shot Machine, they qualify here
- PAPER: color-matched Lemon Lime Twist Cardstock for the card base (see embellishment note above. See what I mean?!)
What a wonderful thing it is to EAT-lol! After you’ve built up a few basics, start adding items from these categories. A color-matched embellishment and specialty adhesives would top my recommended list. Punches are a fave. Ultimately, the Big Shot and accessories- a paper crafting dream machine!

Thanks for visiting! I’ve been following these paper crafting formulas for years and hope you’ll find them as helpful as I do. They’re so entrenched in my brain, when I publish my supply lists, you’ll find the items are in the same order as the acronyms (most of the time at least). Have lots of fun putting them into practice… and taking your paper crafting projects from simple to stunning!❤
Thank you for sharing your card made with the All Adorned set. I have the set but as of yet have not had the opportunity to make a card with it. Hopefully this week I can get that done. I love your card and would like to CASE it, may need to make a change or two but do love the template of your card. Thanks Again,
Debbie Stafford
