Handmade Note Cards – Embossed!

It’s Note Card Week! Today I’m sharing one of my all-time favorites: Embossed Note Cards. This is the first of five card projects that are perfect for those little notes of ‘Thanks’ and ‘Thinking of You’ we send to our friends and family. {They also make awesome gift sets!}.

Handmade Note Cards – Embossed!

Are you ready? You only need 3 things to make these: Big Shot Machine, favorite Embossing Folder(s) and either Whisper White or Very Vanilla Note Cards & Envelopes. (The cards featured today are Very Vanilla). Why do I adore these so much? They’re quick and easy to make with a wow factor that will have your friends & family asking in bewilderment “you made this???”

BIG SHOT MACHINE

NOW is the BEST TIME to get the BIG SHOT Machine: Earn (2) $50 Level or (1) $100 Level Sale-A-Bration products for FREE! Since this machine never goes on sale, that’s the equivalent of $30 -$40 savings!

Savvy Tip: Pick the Tea Time Framelits Dies for a great FREE starter set that coordinates with the new Tea Together Stamp Set!

The Big Shot is a crafter’s dream machine. Easy to use. Built to last (my first machine from 2006 is still going strong- it’s in the photo below with Lydia & Grace!). It cuts, scores, embosses and more. Easily cut shapes, emboss backgrounds, add textures and create 3D projects. Quickly cut out stamped images with our coordinating dies. If there’s one tool that can help you take your paper crafting to a whole new level, it’s the Big Shot!

Watch this video to see why the Big Shot machine should be on your next order…

Everything you need to get started is included.  The only thing you’ll do when it arrives is attach the handle (a 1-minute job) and you’re ready to roll… literally! And it’s NOT electronic- so you don’t need power to run it. Or an engineering degree to figure it out! ?

Embossing Folder Tutorial

Embossing folders are one of my favorite Big Shot accessories. Simply insert your paper inside the plastic folder, roll it through the Big Shot machine… and out comes something magical! They’re inexpensive, so it’s easy to collect them in a variety of different styles (there’s currently 30 to choose from – all $10 & under!). They last forever and can be used over and over to produce amazing texture, quickly and simply. (Come back tomorrow for details on six of my favorite folders and the note cards I made with them).

To emboss note cards:

  • Burnish the center fold of the note card with your Bone Folder before embossing
  • Open the card and insert the portion you want embossed into the Embossing Folder. If it’s the entire card front, insert it up to the fold line, even with the edge of the folder. The same applies for envelope flaps.
  • Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (TIEF) use both cutting plates. Place the Embossing Folder sandwiched between the cutting plates, with the spine going into the machine first.
  • Dynamic TIEF’s are thicker and only use one cutting plate. Insert the same as above, with the cutting plate on top.
  • If you have any problems with your paper cracking, spritz with alcohol or water before embossing. This softens the fibers and helps prevent problems. (I didn’t need to do this with any of the cards I made, but it can occasionally happen).
