Surprise Gift Card Holder with New Card Sketch
Hi there! Have I got a fun card for you today! I created this for my local Paper Hugs Class a couple weeks ago and this card was hands-down their favorite. To look at it you’d think it was just a regular, adorable birthday card… but, open it up and SURPRISE!.. out swings a gift card pocket! FUN?
There’s nothing sweeter for birthdays than the HOW SWEET IT IS Designer Series Paper and matching Cardstock Pack. It’s FABULOUS! The color scheme (and “decorations”) are straight from the paper (just a couple of the many reasons why I L*O*V*E Designer Paper!)
The Card Sketch Blueprint Tutorial includes measurements and directions. Click on the image below to download and/or print for future reference!

With a few exceptions, simply follow Card Sketch Blueprint Tutorial #105. The (separate) tutorial with all the instructions for this card follows later in the post. Make sure to download them both!
Notice I placed the sentiment in the circle instead of using the 1/2″ sentiment strip called for in the Card Sketch Tutorial. Options are good! “Happy Birthday” is found in the WELL SAID Stamps Set). The sentiment on the inside is from the MORE THAN WORDS Stamp Set (“Today calls for something sweet”). The SWEETEST THING Stamps would be ideal.
You’ll find the gumball machine on the front of the card in the Designer Paper (along with several other fun images). Simply die-cut with the JAR OF SWEETS Framelit Dies or fussy-cut with Paper Snips. INSTANT FOCAL POINT! The candy decorating the gift card pocket also are cut from the DSP.
Instead of simply cutting the Coastal Cabana Cardstock panel, die-cut it with the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies
Here’s a side view, showing the pocket swinging out when the card is opened (photo above).
Surprise! The gift card pocket swings out when you open the card. Decorate with the DSP… there’s so many fun images to choose, like the candy (photo above)!
Lift it up to discover the gift card (or cash, check, note) and sweet sentiment. Find the card tutorial to download and print after the supply list!
