Happy June, crafty friends! Looking for the perfect summer cardmaking project? This quick & easy beach-themed card is just the thing to bring sunny vibes to your crafting table! In this week’s step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a breezy, coastal-inspired handmade card using the Notes & Totes Bundle and Two-Tone Cardstock from Stampin’ Up!®
Whether you’re sending a note to a friend or building your summer card stash, this fun and simple project is great for all skill levels. Let’s dive into some creative sunshine!
Crumb Cake Classic Cardstock: 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. On Paper Trimmer, score and fold on long side at 4-1/4″ to form card base
With Crumb Cake Classic Ink and the dotted ‘sand’ stamp from Notes & Totes Bundle, stamp off onto scrap paper first to lighten the ink color, then stamp on card front in area that won’t be covered by the “ocean”. (photo above)
Basic White Thick Cardstock: 3″ x 3″
With Notes & Totes Dies, cut two starfish and one shell
Color shell with Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends Combo Markers and starfish with Medium-Light Stampin’ Blends Combo Markers. Brush on Wink of Stella Clear Shimmer.
Pool Party Two-Tone Cardstock: (3) 4″ x 5″ pieces
Create the look of ‘rolling ocean surf’ with a classic paper-tearing technique that takes advantage of the white core and dual shades of Stampin’ Up!’s Two-Tone Cardstock… one lighter side and one slightly darker shade on the reverse.
Stack cut pieces in this order (face up): light, dark (flip to reverse side), light.
Starting with bottom piece, from top right corner slowly tear towards you on the diagonal to bottom left corner. Repeat with next piece, starting about 1″ to the left of the first piece. Repeat same on third piece until you have three pieces, like shown in the photo below… we’re using the pieces in the top right. Set aside the remaining pieces (bottom right) for a bonus card shown at the end!
Pool Party 12″ x 12″ Two-Tone Cardstock is available in an individual color pack, or as part of the combo packs below that coordinate with these designer series papers (left to right) Cute As Can Bee, Celebratory Sips*, Turtle-y Cute*, Wildflower Birthday*.
*Psst! These designer papers are Buy One, Get One 50% offwhile supplies last this month!
Temporarily place bottom (largest) piece of the “ocean surf” on card front, position sentiment in lower right corner and stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
ASSEMBLE
Starting with the bottom (largest) piece of “ocean surf”, adhere in place on card front. Add middle piece, then top piece.
Savvy Tip: Don’t place adhesive along the torn edge… apply it about 1″ back so you can easily curl edge and insert seashells!
Adhere starfish and seashell… tuck a couple under the edge as if they’re rolling in with the surf! (see photo above)
EMBELLISH
With fingers, curl the torn edges back slightly in a few spots to mimic the look of waves… done!
BONUS INSPIRATION
Remember the remaining pieces of torn Pool Party Two-Tone Cardstock?
Flip them over and use them to make a second card with a reverse design… it’s a two-for-one special!
SAVVY SUBSTITUTIONS! Instead of two starfish, die-cut just one and stamp and not-so-fussy-cut the sun as one of the three focus images. Adhere the “ocean surf” at the bottom of the card, trimming off the extra… card two done!
Notice I didn’t stamp the ‘sand’ on this one? Which look do you like better… with or without? The first card or second? Both? 🙂
