Showcase Week Continues with Picture Perfect Birthday Card #2

Picture Perfect Birthday Card #2

Happy Wednesday… so glad you’re here! Today I’m sharing card #2 in the Picture Perfect Birthday card showcase. It’s such a simple, easy-to-make card, it’s my go-to design when giving money or a gift card. I hope you’ll adopt it for yourself! Change up the paper and stamps and it’s perfect for any occasion.

If you missed card #1 from Monday, you can see it HERE.

Going, going…

As I shared Monday, while the ‘Picture Perfect Birthday’ stamp set will continue to be available for another year, the ‘Picture Perfect Party’ Designer Series Paper featured this week is retiring. Coupled with the coordinating cardstock pack (Bermuda Bay, Lemon Lime Twist & retiring color Peekaboo Peach) and Classic Ink Spots (Berry Burst, Bermuda Bay, Peekaboo Peach & Pool Party) they make creating birthday cards quick and easy! I highly recommend getting these retiring goodies before they disappear! If you’re looking for value, this is the way to go!

Plus, by the end of the week, you’ll have three different card recipes to get you started creating and building your birthday card stash. (It’s as good as a FREE class!) And this suite of products is perfect for cards that work for everyone- adults and kids, male and female! A universal-use card is up there with cake, ice cream… and whipped cream with a cherry on top! And maybe a chocolate drizzle, too!

Card Recipe

STAMPS: Picture Perfect Birthday

INK: Classic Ink Spots- Bermuda Bay (or ink to match cardstock of choice)

PAPER:

  • Picture Perfect Party Cardstock Pack– Bermuda Bay Card Base 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5-1/2″ and 9″; front circle Lemon Lime Twist 2-1/2″
  • Picture Perfect Party Designer Series Paper: Candles 2″ wide x 4-1/4″ high; front layer 3″ x 3-3/4″, ‘TO YOU” layer & stripe on gift card holder- see Savvy Tips below
  • Whisper White Cardstock: Inside sentiment panel 3″ x 3-3/4″; front circle 2-1/4″

EMBELLISHMENTS: Bermuda Bay Shimmer Ribbon (retired Sale-A-Bration; any coordinating ribbon or Baker’s Twine works), Tutti-Frutti Self Adhesive Sequins

ADHESIVES: SNAIL or MP Glue, Stampin’ Dimensionals (circles on card front), Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (‘TO YOU’ double layer on front), Tear & Tape [or Fast Fuse] for gift card flap

TOOLS: Stampin’ Trimmer, Bone Folder, 2-1/4 Circle Punch, 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, 1″ Circle Punch (optional) [Layering Circle Framelits Dies would also work]

Savvy Tips

Savvy Tip #1: The DSP is 6″ high, so you’ll need to trim down the “candles” to fit the card height of 4-1/4″. To center them, cut 3/4″ from the top and 1″ from the bottom, cut again into three strips just shy of 3/8″ each.  This is the “stripe” used on the inside gift card holder.  Take the candles and cut vertically every 2″. Now you have enough for three cards. No waste!!! Here’s a picture for a visual…

Cut guide with zero waste… enough for 3 cards!

Savvy Tip #2: The 3/4″ cut from the top is used for the layer on the front that says “TO YOU”. I used a Stampin’ Write Marker in Bermuda Bay, but, the Classic Ink Spot would also work with a simple Post-It Note mask over ‘Birthday’. Ink sentiment, remove and stamp. Use what you have… both work!

Use either the Stampin’ Write Marker or Ink Spot with masking to create the double layer ‘TO YOU’

Savvy Tip #3: Stamp the front sentiment ‘Happiest of Birthdays TO YOU’ first, then punch. Layer on colored cardstock. Before adhering to card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, lay your ribbon or twine in place and tack down with a bit of SNAIL, then attach circle over it. Use Mini Dimensional (or Dimensional cut in half) to adhere the double layer ‘TO YOU’. Add sequins last.

Savvy Tip #4: Punch optional finger notch from gift card flap before adhering sides with Tear & Tape.

  1. Really like the gift card, I’ll be saving the layout to my “toolbox.” I don’t understand the purpose of the DSP candles to the right of the card. You didn’t say how you attached it. I look forward to more of your card creations!

    • Thanks for your comments! The candle DSP decorates the card so you see it whether open or closed. It’s attached with SNAIL adhesive or MP Glue. Does that help? Love the “toolbox” concept! 🙂
