Stampin Up Takeout Thinlits Dies – DIY Holiday Lanterns
Hi friends! I am so excited about today’s project! You know I’m passionate about using Stampin’ Up! products in fun and unexpected ways… and sharing it with YOU! These DIY holiday lanterns definitely fit the criteria! I hope you like the examples I’m sharing as much as I do! Here’s the holiday lanterns decorating my fireplace mantle…
Stampin Up Takeout Thinlits Dies
It’s easy (and inexpensive) to create holiday decor personalized to fit any look by using your favorite Designer Paper or Cardstock and the Stampin Up Takeout Thinlits Dies. Decorate them with a variety of stamps or dies. Simply insert a battery-powered LED tealight and they’re safe to use anywhere. They also make great table favors and gifts!
The Stampin Up Takeout Thinlits Dies are also available bundled with the Takeout Treats Stamp Set for a 10% savings! Beware: both are retiring soon and there’s not many left! You’ll need to order without delay if you want to make these (and lots of other fab things)!
Want tips and ideas on using this great set? Watch the video tutorial in this blog post. This set will be great for Valentines’ cards and treats, too!
More Ideas
Here’s a couple other lantern ideas (above) that are designed to sit or hang. The one on the left is made from Bermuda Bay Cardstock (and ink) and decorated with the Beautiful Blizzard Stamp & Die Bundle using Joyous Noel (Copper) Glimmer Paper and a Rhinestone Basic Jewel. The handle is made from the matching 1/4″ Mini Striped Ribbon.
The Vellum Cardstock on the right lantern is stamped with the three kings image from the Illuminated Christmas Stamp Set and colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers. 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon creates the rustic handle on the Crumb Cake Cardstock box.
Make the lantern above with…
- Dashing Along Designer Series Paper and Vellum Cardstock
- Die-cut Sparkle Glimmer Paper with the Blizzard Thinlits Die on the Big Shot Machine and embellish with a Rhinestone Basic Jewel colored with the Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker
- Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon creates the DIY Bow
Don’t they look amazing all lit up? The snowflakes are my favorite because you’ll be able to keep them out past the holidays!
SAVVY TIP: If you were a Savvy Shopper and snagged the Limited Edition Snowfall Thinlits last month, they look great, too! There’s also similar size snowflakes to use in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies.

Hi Maria! So glad to hear how much you liked them! They’re so fun and easy to make, but grab the Takeout Thinlits Dies soon- they’re retiring shortly! Sonny is right- the Takeout Treats Bundle is really versatile and will be great for year-round use treats… one of my favorite products in the Holiday Catalog. WHEEEE ! I have a bunch of these little lights . Wouldn`t these be cute early pre Christmas gifts !!! As I told you before I am obsessive about making these little boxes !
I love this framelit ….thank you for a cute cute idea !
I think these would also be adorable Valentine gifts !!
Hi to my secret sister! lol I just love your enthusiasm and ideas! I’m gifting them to the gals in my local Paper Hugs Club this weekend- so once again we’re on the same wave-length! And I agree- they’ll be great for Valentine’s treats! Have fun!!! 🙂
so how do you put the tea lite in it if it’s upside down?
Hi Kymberly! If you want it to sit, I found tucking the side and rear flaps up inside and setting the LED tea light on the front flap worked best. If you want to hang them, set the lantern on its side and insert tea light (on it’s side too) and close flaps. When done, the tea light drops down when the lantern is sat upright. It’s easy-peasy! Have fun!:)
These are so wonderful!!! Love!
Hi Tracy! So glad you liked them- they are sooo FUN! 🙂
