Springtime Impressions Embossed Vellum Card

Today’s project features an embossed vellum card with a twist: it’s not created in the way you’d likely think. It was made with the Springtime Impressions Thinlits die (part of the Garden Impressions Suite). Did you catch that? A die (as in die-cut), NOT an embossing folder. Made possible with the Big Shot Embossing Mat- a new must-have tool if you own the Big Shot machine! If you watched Wednesday’s video tutorial (found HERE)- you know what I’m talking about!

I’m so taken with the fun new technique of embossing with dies that I can’t stop! Getting double-duty from all your dies with just one (inexpensive!) tool is AMAZING!

I was so excited to see the embossed vellum look as fabulous in reality as I pictured in my head. (Yay! That doesn’t always happen 🙂 It provides such a beautiful backdrop to the bright butterfly. For another lovely butterfly card made with this die, see Monday’s project HERE.

Savvy Tip: Vellum is much thinner than cardstock, so you may get areas that cut through even with the embossing mat. Lightly sponging Multipurpose Glue all over the top and adhering it to the card base upside down solved any problems. It helped to lay Clear Blocks and a book on it for the night; flat and secure in the morning!

Two layers of butterfly add dimension and the illusion that it’s flying. The little heart from the ‘Stitched Labels’ Framelits Dies provides a cute little focal point. The antennae are Whisper White Baker’s Twine untwisted and colored with the Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write Marker. You’ll find that sweet “hello” sentiment in the ‘Varied Vases’ stamp set.
