How To Add Texture To Cards With Embossing Folders
Want to know how to add texture to cards? Embossing folders are at the top of my list of favorites! See for yourself why with today’s photo tutorial, which also includes savvy tips on how to step them up a notch.
Embossing Folders- A Great Value!
Want to know why I adore embossing folders? They’re versatile, simple to use, produce dramatic results, can be used over and over and are… drumroll, please- inexpensive!
Today’s incredible texture and pattern is thanks to the TIN TILE Dynamic-Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Doesn’t it look just like the tin-tile ceilings found in old farmhouses?
Now let me share how to step up your embossing by highlighting all those luscious details!
Ink is the secret ingredient! See the difference it makes in the photo below…
It’s easy to do, too! The Sponge Brayer is the tool that makes magic happen (another inexpensive tool). Simply roll it across a Classic Stampin’ Pad numerous times, inking the foam roller. Make sure to not press too hard and dig the center cylinder into the ink pad.
Apply the ink to the top, inside of the embossing folder using a light touch; you want to apply ink to the raised surface only. Repeat until the entire area is well covered.
With the folder still open, center your cardstock on the bottom half. The key is to place your paper exactly where you want it before closing the folder. Once it’s closed and the ink touches the paper, you don’t want it to shift.
Insert in the Big Shot machine with the spine toward the center. Dynamic folders only use a single cutting pad, along with your Platform. Make a single pass and the paper that went in flat will come out the other side textured and gorgeous!
Cleanup: Rinse your folder with water and you’ll be good as new!
Embossing folders provide so much “wow”, you can keep the other elements of your project simple. Can I hear a wooHOO??!

Loved the idea of inking the embossing folder. Are you able to reuse the sponge brayer with different colors? Can you wait for it to dry and use different colors or rinse it out?
Those are such great questions, Danielle that I filmed a short video with the answers and a few savvy tips here: https://stampinsavvy.com/embossing-technique-video-sneak-peek/
Just rinse the foam rollers after use and you can re-use them over and over in any color you want! They’re a great, inexpensive tool to have… and so fun! Thanks for asking!:)
